transgender skincare beauty tips mtf

What is transgender / crossdressing skincare and how do I get a radiant complexion? How do transgender women make their skin soft like girls? What beauty tips will work for me and what are the best skincare products to use with transgender makeup? These are beauty questions that many transgender / crossdressing individuals ask regardless of their style. Whether you are just beginning your transition or have been living as your true self for years, taking care of your skin is an important part of the equation. The good news is that with a little know-how, you can create an anti aging skincare routine that reduces signs of aging and gives you a radiant complexion, no matter what your style, skin type, or budget may be.

Unique Beauty and Transgender Skincare Issues

Men and women going through their transition have unique transgender beauty and skincare issues. These beauty problems and concerns may emerge from hormone replacement therapy or gender-affirming procedures. has a webinar series by MedPiper Technologies and JournoMed addressing the topics of Transgender Skincare, The Basics of Skincare, Microcurrent Targeted treatments, Side effects of Transitioning etc.

The hormone therapy process required for gender transition can lead to multiple dermatological issues. According to some of the more common beauty and transgender skincare issues that trans men and women face include:

Acne Vulgaris (AV) – AV is a common side effect of testosterone therapy.

Unwanted Hair Loss and Hair Growth – Transmasculine hormone therapy can often cause what is called androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss). On the other hand, for transfeminine hormone therapy doesn’t necessarily stop hair growth. Estrogen and antiandrogen treatments generally do not cause cessation of facial hair growth. Other hair-removal interventions, like laser hair removal and electrolysis may need to be administered.

Pigmentation Issues – Transfeminine patients undergoing estrogen hormone therapy are often at increased risk for Melasma (also known as chloasma).

Tips for a Radiant Complexion

Hair removal may affect your skin – Your skin and collagen can be damaged by transgender facial hair removal. During your transition, it is imperative that your complete this beauty tip as soon as possible. You will have much better results with your transgender makeup and transgender skincare once you no longer have to shave.

  1. Stop smoking or vaping and also cut back significantly on drinking.

  2. Choose a healthy diet that fits your lifestyle and get plenty of exercise

  3. Use sunblock. Don’t forget your luscious lips.

  4. Choose a skin care routine and skincare products that work best for you.

Basics of Beauty Tips and Transgender / Crossdressing Skincare

Regular cleansing is essential to keeping your complexion looking radiant and healthy. It also helps to keep your pores clear and may prevent them from becoming enlarged. The skin on your face is continually covered with dirt, oil, bacteria, and old dead skin cells. Without washing, your skin would be covered with a thick layer of dirt and grime which leads to black heads, acne and other skin issues. In addition, the dirt, grime and dead skin cells will diminish the beauty of your transgender makeup and prevent your other skincare products from being effective.

  1. Remove eye makeup. Mascara and eyeliner can be a little more difficult to remove. Apply eye makeup remover around your eyes to make sure it’s completely removed and then rinse it off.

  2. To wash your face, choose a cleanser for your skin type. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive. I like Clean & Clear Essentials Foaming Cleanser for Sensitive Skin.

  3. Always apply an oil free / paraben free moisturizer after you cleanse your face to lock in moisture. Remember oily face creams and face creams with parabens clog pores and can cause acne. Be sure to choose a moisturizer that is paraben free, pthalate free, and oil free.

Exfoliating is imperative to add to your anti aging routine. Try to exfoliate at least once or twice a week. Exfoliating regularly removes dulling skin caused by dead skin cells, prevents future breakouts, and helps you achieve a glowing, radiant complexion. When you remove these dead skin cells your skin will look radiant, fresh, and smooth. (Btw….Transgender makeup looks best on radiant, fresh, and smooth skin.) Whatever your skin type, oily, dry, or somewhere in between, make sure to exfoliate to remove that dead skin. Exfoliating also helps your skin to more fully absorb your other transgender skincare products.

There are two types of exfoliators: Chemical and Physical.

Chemical Exfoliation is done with some type of acid such as: alpha-hydroxy acid, glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid just to name a few. If acne is one of your concerns, Salicylic Acid is a great ingredient for fighting acne, whether you use it in a cleanser or in a leave-on treatment, such as Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant.

Physical Exfoliation is done with the help of masks or scrubs. They can be either based on natural ingredients such as coffee grounds, orange peels, coconut, sugar particles, or synthetic agents.

My favorite powerful anti aging product to exfoliate with Sabrina Beauty all natural facial masks. There is one for every skin type. Sabrina Beauty Oatmeal Mask / Scrub is great for sensitive skin. My favorite is the Sabrina Beauty Natural Orange Peel Mask. This mask is made of crushed natural orange peels which are extremely effective in exfoliating the skin. Sabrina Beauty Natural Orange Peel Mask clears and reduces pores and gives skin a beautiful, radiant glow. It’s also rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C which helps to tighten and tone the skin.

Moisturizing: Three Major Benefits

A beautiful radiant complexion that glows must be nourished and hydrated. Moisturizing must be a part of your morning and nighttime beauty skin care routines. It’s essential that you replenish your skin with moisture right after cleansing or exfoliating, and before applying makeup. There are many benefits to having hydrated skin, and here are three transgender skincare reasons to keep in mind.

Moisturizing Benefit #1:

It hydrates and protects the skin and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles. Moisturized skin is stronger, plumper and more radiant looking.

Moisturizing Benefit #2:

It helps to balance your skin’s natural oil production regardless of your skin type. Yes, even oily skin needs to be moisturized. Many people with oily skin think it’s best to dry out their skin. This is so wrong. Drying out the skin is actually the worse thing to do. Drying out the skin actually tricks the skin’s oil producing glands to produce more oil. When your skin produces excess oil it is more challenging to keep your transgender makeup looking fresh throughout the day or night. Moisturizing after cleansing and before applying makeup helps to balance out the skin’s natural oil production and will give you the radiant complexion that you desire.

Moisturizing Benefit #3:

It improves your makeup application. As someone once said, if the canvas is bad the paint doesn’t matter. Powders, foundation, and concealer will look clumpy on flaky, patchy and dry skin. In addition, it will make fine lines, wrinkles and blemishes even more noticeable. Hydrated skin is smooth, supple and beautiful. For a radiant complexion that glows and looks amazing with your transgender makeup it is imperative to moisturize after cleansing, exfoliating, and before applying makeup.
